Polymeric sand is what holds interlocking pavers together. It is sand mixed with a binder that hardens once it gets wet, and it fills the joints between the stones, sets hard, and keeps weeds, ants and water out so the stones stop moving. Polymeric sanding is for interlock and paver surfaces only: driveways, patios, walkways and front steps. We do not sand deck joints. Wood and pool decks get pressure washing on their own.

Regular sand washes out over time. The joints turn into weed gardens, ants colonize the gaps, and the pavers start to wobble. By the time most people notice, half the joints are already empty. We take the surface back to day one: pressure wash between every crack and off the face of every stone, strip the old sand, weeds and ant hills out, then once it is fully dry, brush brand new polymeric sand into every joint until it is packed level, and mist it in light passes so it hardens in place.

What moves the price

What decides the price.

Square footage

The more paver surface, the more joints there are to strip and refill.

Condition of the joints

Sunken or washed out joints take longer to strip and refill than a light top up.

Sand colour and brand

We match the colour already on site and can use Sika or Alliance Gator sand. Alliance Gator costs a bit more.

Access

Tight side yards and gated areas take more setup time.

FAQ

You Got Questions.
We Have Answers.

How long does polymeric sanding last?

Usually 3 to 5 years, depending on traffic, weather and how the surface is kept up. A pressure wash about once a year keeps the joints from getting overgrown and helps it last longer.

Can you work in the rain?

Pressure washing is fine in light rain. Polymeric sanding needs a dry surface and a dry window to cure, so we move it to the next clear day and confirm with you. A weather move is never a cancellation and never costs you anything.

Do I need to be home for the sanding?

It helps if you are home for the quote so we can go over it together, but the work itself does not need you there as long as the water is on and we can get to the area.

How long before I can walk or drive on it?

24 hours off the surface is usually enough for it to set. We confirm the exact timing on the day since weather plays a part.

Do you seal the joints after sanding?

We usually do not recommend a sealer. Water is what sets polymeric sand, and the wash already brings the colour back. A sealer can make the stones look greasy over time. If you would like one anyway, mention it and we will go over it on the call.

What sand do you use?

Sika polymeric sand, or Alliance Gator if you would rather (it costs a bit more). We match the colour to what is already on site so you do not have to remember it.
