Pressure washing and soft washing get lumped together as the same thing, but they are two different processes aimed at the same result: a surface stripped of years of dirt, algae, mildew and oxidation, brought back to its original colour.

The difference is how much force we use to get there, and that decision is not up to preference. It is decided entirely by what the surface can actually take without getting damaged.

Two different processes, same goal

Pressure washing uses higher water pressure to physically blast dirt, algae and buildup off a hard surface. Soft washing uses lower pressure, sometimes closer to what a garden hose can do, paired with the right cleaning approach so it can still lift stubborn growth off a surface without hammering it. Both processes remove the same kind of grime, years of dirt, mildew, algae and oxidation that a regular hose alone will not touch. They just get there with a different amount of force, and using the wrong one on the wrong surface is how damage happens.

When we soft wash

Siding and wood are the two surfaces where we default to a soft wash. Vinyl and wood siding streaked green with algae, and wood decks that have gone grey with weathering, both respond well to a lower pressure approach that lifts the buildup without stripping paint, splintering wood or forcing water behind panels where it does not belong. It takes a bit more time than blasting it with full pressure, but it is the difference between a clean surface and a damaged one. Fences and other delicate exterior surfaces generally get the same treatment.

When we use higher pressure

Concrete and stone are built to take more force, so driveways, patios, walkways and pool decks generally get a higher pressure wash to properly lift years of oil, oxidation and buildup that a soft wash would not fully touch. On interlock specifically, that higher pressure wash always gets paired with a fresh coat of polymeric sand afterward, since the wash alone blows the old sand straight out of the joints. How we protect your plants and grass either way

Regardless of which method we are using, we keep cleaning solution off your plants and grass as we work. If anything does land on them, we rinse it off with plain water before we leave, so neither method should leave your garden worse off than when we arrived.

Why using the wrong one is where damage stories come from

Almost every pressure washing horror story you have heard traces back to the wrong amount of force on the wrong surface, not the process itself being unsafe. Full pressure aimed at siding can strip paint or force water in behind panels where it does not belong. A soft wash on a driveway coated in years of oil and oxidation will not fully lift it, leaving the job half done and the customer no better off than before they called. Neither outcome is a fault of pressure washing as a category, it is a mismatch between method and surface.
